HLTAID012 Provide First Aid In An Education & Care Setting

Yes. The HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Education & Care Setting course is a nationally recognised unit of competency under the Australian Health Training Package. Upon successful completion you will receive a Statement of Attainment that is recognised across Australia and meets requirements under the Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations for first aid training in education and care settings.

When you successfully complete this course, you will receive:

• A nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an Education & Care Setting 
• A digital certificate emailed to you (PDF), ready for workplace or regulatory use
• Practical skills in responding to first aid emergencies where infants and children are involved, suitable for workplace compliance in education and care environments 

This course equips you with the skills and knowledge to respond confidently and safely to first aid emergencies in education and care settings. It covers:

• Recognising and assessing emergency situations and danger zones 
• Performing CPR for adults, children and infants in line with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines 
• Responding to asthma and anaphylaxis emergencies, including use of asthma relievers and adrenaline auto-injectors (epinephrine) 
• Managing common childhood injuries and illnesses including choking, bleeding, fractures, shock and minor wounds 
• Communicating with emergency services, families or carers and completing incident documentation appropriately 
• Applying first aid principles safely with appropriate infection control and equipment use 

Your HLTAID012 Provide First Aid In An Education & Care Setting Statement of Attainment is valid for 3 years from the date of issue. 

However, the CPR component (HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) included within it is recommended to be refreshed annually in line with Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines and most workplace compliance policies.

There are no formal education prerequisites, but to successfully complete the course, participants should:

• Have a Unique Student Identifier (USI) — this is required for issuing the nationally recognised certificate 
• Be physically able to perform two minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult and infant manikin on the floor (kneeling) 
• Have basic language, literacy and communication skills to follow instructions and complete assessments
